Framework Programme 7 (FP7)
The EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) bundles all research-related EU initiatives together under a common roof playing a crucial role in reaching the goals of growth, competitiveness and employment.
Financial support for research is made available chiefly through calls for proposals, which are issued for each specific programme of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
FP7 is divided into four programmes – ‘Cooperation’, ‘Ideas’, ‘People’ and ‘Capacities’:
- ‘Cooperation’ supports research cooperation in a number of key thematic areas, addressing specific sectors such as life sciences, information and communication technologies and food quality and safety research.
- ‘Ideas’ funds investigator-driven research through the European Research Council (ERC).
- ‘People’ supports training and researcher career development.
- ‘Capacities’ funds the coordination and development of research infrastructure, regional research clusters, international cooperation and closer ties between science and society.
Each of the four areas has a work programme which contains a roadmap of upcoming calls for proposals. Each new call is announced in the EU Official Journal and then published on CORDIS.
All calls for proposals in FP7 are published on the Research & Innovation Participant Portal.
